As a teacher, you are responsible for a lot of things.Besides molding and shaping the minds of the next generation,we are given the high honor of watching kids while they take the life or death exit exams.
I don't like proctoring tests. I despise doing it. Why?
Some of my kids HATE taking these things. And they will sabotage the best laid plans. Most of them actually try, but the few that don't can make my life a living hell.
Talking when they shouldn't, making all types of noises, whinning (the one thing I despise the most). It drives me insane! Then there are those who expect you to help them and get a serious attitude when you don't.
I'll be honest. I take a peek at some of the essays kids write. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. The poor spelling, non existent punctuation, run-on sentence, and off topic paragraphs abound. And don't get me started on the math portion. Nothing else in the world makes me feel like a huge failure as a teacher than looking at some of the math responses.
But these are required tests, no way of escaping it. If my kids want a diploma, and they all do, they have to pass this test.
Hopefully we will all survive.
For a great laugh, check out "Zero Out of Five", a blog about witty, creative, and sometimes disturbing responses from students who obviously didn't study for the test.
