Product Reviews--Butterfly Kisses Botanicals

If you take a gander at my list titled "Blog I Check Out Regularly", you'll notice that a great number of them are makeup/beauty/fashion blogs. Makeup is my little hobby.
Now, I'm not like some women who spend large amounts of money on the stuff. But I will pay good money for quality merchandise. I will also go out of my way to support companies owned by women and/or people of color. I would like to highlight one such company today.

Butterfly Kisses Botanicals is a company I discovered through Fugly Labs, "an online retailer of sample sized cosmetics for ethnic beauties." Please show them much love!

When Kenyetta Smith first stood in her kitchen, contemplating her line of handmade beauty products, she knew then the main ingredient in all her recipes would be love. Today, almost four years later, now standing in her very own boutique, the main ingredient in the entire line of Butterfly Kisses Botanicals (BKB) is still LOVE !

Butterfly Kisses Botanicals (BKB) is a collection of Smith’s personal offerings for sumptuous bath, body and hair treatments. Available on-line at www.bkbstore.com and on-site at 4504 West Washington Blvd. in the heart of Los Angeles, BKB was first inspired by a recurring dream. Prompted by the vision in her dream, Smith felt compelled to take a local soap making class. The dream proved prophetic as she went on to develop her own line of bath salts, scrubs, candles, scented oils and body butters.

Dead Sea salts, essential oils, and soy-vegetable wax are just a sampling of the ingredients combined with love that support Smith’s motto “Caring for yourself is not a luxury, but a requirement!” Her lavish line of scented and unscented products range from the gender-neutral like the camphor/eucalyptus/lavender combo to the distinctly sweet and tantalizing vanilla/coconut/almond variety. Bergamot and ginger, coconut and gardenia, pear & vanilla and blackberry & sandalwood are just a flurry of the fragrances that warrant the line’s reputation for products butterfly kissed!

I ordered the 2oz size of the Brown Sugar Scrubitude, D--n Sexy Hydrating Body Mist, and the D--n Sexy Liquid Body Silk. (Hey, don't hate...I'm trying to keep it G-rated here! My kid reads this blog!)

These have the most yummy smell! The combined smells of vanilla, almonds, and coconut. I love the smell of vanilla...it puts me in a dreamy mood.
The best part about these are they are all natural! No preservatives, no additives, no parabens. The Hydrating Body Mist has no alcohol in it!

Ingredients: Hydrating Body Mist
Made of fresh pure spring water and aloe vera. Light and refreshing. No harsh alcohol or chemicals that dry skin, destroy clothing.

Ingredients: Brown Sugar Scrub
Brown sugar, pure sweet almond oil. Fragrance and or essential oils.

Ingredients: Liquid Body Silk
Sweet almond oil, Shea butter, mango butter, , coconut oil. Fragrance and or essential oils.

Lately I have been using sweet almond oil to remove eye makeup, coconut oil for my scalp and hair, and jojoba oil to moisturize my face after I wash it every morning and every night. I also use witch hazel as a twice daily astringent. I have to admit that I am extremely pleased with the performance of these items. And I am happy with the price of each too, less than $6.00 for each type of oil at the local natural foods store. When I saw these oils as the main ingredients in the products, I knew I had to try. And I haven't been disappointed.

The brown sugar scrub is wonderful. The oils rise to the top so you have to mix it with the sugar, but oh...it leaves your skin baby soft. Be careful because it does make the floor of your shower/tub slippery.

The liquid body silk doesn't contain water, just carrier and essential oils with some shea butter in there too. I like how my skin just absorbs the oils immediately...no greasy residue at all. And my skin is very soft and smooth.

The hydrating mist is really nice also. No sting or dryness from alcohol. The high alcohol content in brands like Bath and Body Works turned me off from using their body sprays. I have to be careful not to go overboard with this stuff. A little does truly go a long way.

Does anyone know of any other all natural body care brands out there? Please drop me a line and let me know.

Hello! Coconut oil for the scalp and hair is remarkable. Long before it was discovered to be a potent antimicrobial capable of killing even the dreadful HIV virus (AIDS), coconut oil was already busy giving countless communities strong and beautiful hair and skin.

Just my little two cents on the matter.
